Liturgy 012: Disrupting the Auto Pilot Life
☕️ 5 Minutes to be present to God, Self, and Others
Hello and welcome new subscribers! Oikon & Wesley sends out a weekly liturgy every Monday to help ground you for the week ahead. I encourage you to set aside 5-10 minutes to prayerfully read through these words with attentiveness to the Spirit of God (best done with coffee in hand).
🙏 Prayer
Take 3 deliberate breaths and pray these words slowly.
God of Creation
Like clay in the hands of a potter, may I be open to your prompting and your ways, trusting that you are forming the image of your Son in me.
Through Christ Our Lord
Amen
📖 Lectio Divina
Read these words slowly, listening for what the Spirit is saying to you personally, today
1 Corinthians 6:12 (NIV)
All things are lawful, not all things are beneficial.
I will not be dominated by anything.
💡 Quote
My discipleship to Jesus is not a matter of what I do, but of how I do it.
— Dallas Willard
🧘 Reflection
Spiritual Formation disrupts the auto-pilot life.
Instead of aimlessly going through the motions of economic survival and social acceptance, Christian spirituality connects the dots from every moment of our lives to who we are becoming.
Is this a sin? Is this lawful? These are boring questions to the Apostle Paul. He invites us to reframe questions of morality and permission, into questions of formation.
How will this be of benefit to my soul and the well being of others? Am I being ruled by a vision of a joyful life in Christ, or am I giving up my agency and self-control?
As you begin your Monday, take a deep breath. Live slowly. Go through your calendar. With all the mandated and discretionary moments of your day, invite the Spirit to help you see each hour as a gift and opportunity to be made into the image of Christ.
🕊️ Blessing
Acknowledging God’s living presence, receive these words:
May you be ruled by a holy vision for who you are becoming - a person who knows God deeply, and loves even your enemy sincerely.
Amen
