Liturgy 033: Deliver Us from Evil
🕊️ A Prayer and a Blessing for Satan to Get Behind You
Did God really say, “You must not eat from any tree in the garden?”
—A Crafty Serpent
There are two equal and opposite errors into which our race can fall about the devils. One is to disbelieve in their existence. The other is to believe, and to feel an excessive and unhealthy interest in them. They themselves are equally pleased by both errors, and hail a materialist or magician with the same delight
—Clive Staples Lewis
This then is how you should pray…
Deliver us from the evil one
—Jesus of Nazareth
🙏 Prayer
The serpent
slithers in
the playground
of logic
Overthinking
is as old as my mother,
Eve
Did God really say that?
Is God actually good?
The devil is not
the persons
I despise
He is the limiting voice
Fracturing my imagination
in the goodness of
Creator and Creation
today
But You are up to something good
Yes You are up to something good
Deliver me from the Evil One who sows doubt in such good news
🕊️ Blessing
May you pause this day to consider a foreign thought in our modern world: the devil is alive. Every thought that interferes your communion with God and limits your belief in the activity of God is the work of an Enemy. May you rebuke those thoughts as Jesus did. Get behind me, Satan!
In Jesus’ Name
Amen
