Liturgy 038: Calling Attention to the Wellness of Your Soul
🕊️ A Prayer and a Blessing for the Unexamined Stories We Tell Ourselves
When you keep clashing with someone,
it may be the world’s way of asking you
to look closely at yourself.
When you don’t like someone,
try to figure out what it is you don’t like;
see whether you have a similar flaw within yourself.
The flaw that you immediately notice
in someone you meet
is probably a flaw of yours, too.
If you didn’t have it,
you wouldn’t have noticed it so quickly.
Haemin Sunim
So in everything, do to others
what you would have them do to you,
for this sums up the Law and the Prophets
Jesus of Nazareth
🙏 Prayer
It sits in my heart
unattended
dismissed
yet growing
My disdain
for a particular few
I refer to it as trauma
in jest and
in displacement
of work
I’ve yet to do
I saw my mother in law
all summer long
picking at the weeds
in her yard
morning by morning
I worried for her back
She worried for the soil
LORD
Search my heart
May I join you in the
excavation of stories
I tell myself
that need uprooting
In their place
God help me
plant the seeds
of a joyful obedience
I’ll trust you for my back
as I go about the work
🕊️ Blessing
May you hear the LORD gently calling attention to the wellness of your soul.
May you be unafraid to examine the anger, ambition, and anxiety that is not born of Spirit, but of fear.
May you feel the safety of God’s Voice leading you to the work of naming and laying down.
May you live with a vision for a life worth imitating.
In the Name of the One who makes all things new,
Amen.
