Lectio Divina
Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.
Jesus
Not the game. Practice.
The Answer
I want to live before your eyes
Stay before your gaze
Keep me steady
Misty
Prayer
God of steadfast mercies
Teach me
the slow work
of tending to the garden
Unimpressive and
unseen from a distance,
teach me to till the soil
of my own becoming
I confess my hunger
for a shortcut
my thumb scrolls
for the quick fix
for the easy win
Give me instead
the patience
to lay what cannot be seen:
the habit of listening deeply,
the quiet acts of unadorned obedience,
the practice of kindness
for its own sake
Let my life be held
not by charm
nor by competence
but the steady ground
underneath everything I’ve built.
Blessing
Dear Friend
May you do the work
May you be as Noah before the rains
May you build an ark of integrity and communion
May you practice listening to your soul
May you be attentive to your family
May you serve God in a thousand ways unseen
May you pray for your enemies
May you bless those who curse your name
May you store treasure in heaven
May you look not with lust in your heart
May you keep your oaths
May you pray in secret
May you practice what Jesus taught us to do
So when the rains come
you only continue what you’ve done
all along, with joyful obedience
In the Name of Jesus
Our Savior
Our Rabbi
the One who showed us
true humanity
Amen
This is beautiful. Thank you, Mike.
