God who said
Let there be light
May my living
be an illumination
Not the harsh glare
of self-importance
but the soft mercy
of presence
May my work
and my words
cast a gentle warmth
on those who
have forgotten
their own light
Beginning with my daughters
over Sunday morning
pancakes
Extending to my colleagues
over Monday morning
assignments
May I be a refraction
like a stream of water
dancing in the day

to anyone. God’s light dwells

of control or power,
