Lectio Divina
Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion!
Shout, Daughter Jerusalem!
See, your king comes to you,
righteous and victorious,
lowly and riding on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
Zechariah 9
Prayer
Lord
Help me hear
the prophet, and
the poet.
His imagination
of procession
and power,
quiet.
I would prefer
the overthrowing
of unjust systems.
What else is a righteous victory?
Lord
Baptize me
in the waters
of your kingdom
where gentleness
reigns above
horses and flags
and weapons of war.
Blessing
Dear Friend
May the news not cause your blood pressure to rise above its resting measure. You do know it’s socially engineered to do just that, yeah?
May you take in the breath and beauty of this Sunday morning. May God’s nearness be your treasure immeasurable. May you not need to arrive any place on a horse.
May gentleness become your native language.
May exceptionalism be but an invitation to care for the least of these.
May you participate in the reign of God, not with anxious noise, but quiet determination to love deeply, to notice the weak, to greet the strong, to walk in gentleness and justice.
In the Name of the One Who Said
Follow Me
Amen
