My questions at the time seemed really big, and he, in his gentle yet straightforward way, basically encouraged me to recommit myself to the most basic things God had put in front of me. My family, my children, my wife. Making sure doing the work I was called to do was not in conflict with being a good dad, husband, and friend.

Prayer
When the questions become too large.
When I reach for a life somewhere beyond the one I’ve been given.
Bring me back, God.
To the table.
To the work.
To the people whose lives are intertwined with my own.
May I not reach for the spectacular
and miss the sacred beneath my feet.
